Roses are red, violets are blue. There is without a doubt a deeper meaning to the colours red and blue. Not only is it a music album, the two versions of my favourite Pokemon games, featured in the red and blue pill meme, symbolizes natural enemies (hello, Cola and Pepsi), a metaphore for the Hells Angel, but hilariously also for the sirens of a police car.
Red is the colour of fire and blood, it is associated with energy, danger, strength, power, determination as well as passion, desire, and love. Blue, on the other hand, is the colour of the sky and sea. It is often connected with depth and stability. It symbolizes trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence and truth. (Source) I like how it also can mean so many different things in terms of emotions: Seeing red & feeling blue.
I like the play with these two opposites. When Jorge showed me his location idea for our shoot, I went to Google maps and was absolutely thrilled. Blue doors and bright red walls in this amazing industrial area. I couldn't have asked for more.
I tried to embrace the more profound meaning of these two opposing colours in my shoot. Even though I am a sucker for black & white photos, I did not dare to "kill off" the colours of our Red & Blue photoshoot in the editing room. Jorge was great to work with and gave me different facial expressions to work with and match our red&blue surrounding.
